ABOUT US
Second Chance Surgeries is a volunteer-based, not-for-profit
organization committed to providing no-cost, high-quality medical,
psychological, and surgical care for the health and well-being of individuals,
both adults and children, with acquired and congenital facial deformities,
especially cleft lip and palates. Though clefts are usually thought of as a
condition involving young children, many of these children develop into adults
because of lack of appropriate access to surgical repair of these defects and
also frequently need our services.
Unrepaired clefts are a social death sentence for these
individuals. Children are kept from
attending schools because of ridicule, and these same children grow up to
become adults who have been socially shunned by their community, forced to live
alone and panhandle for their survival. Even caretakers who have jobs make less than $1-2 a day making it
difficult for them to even consider getting their prescriptions filled let
alone a surgical procedure.
Based out of Atlanta, GA, Dr. Mike Majmundar, a double board
certified facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon, founded the organization
to improve facial plastic surgery care to impoverished countries with
individuals suffering from facial deformities, particularly cleft lip and
palates.
Dr. Mike Majmundar has been recognized as a Top Doctor by
Atlanta magazine, Jezebel magazine, U.S. News and World Report, and Castle
Connolly Medical, LLC.Prior to creating
this organization, he performed several facial surgeries in Central America via
other similar organizations such as Flying Doctors of America and Medical
Outreach of America which is how his passion to help the impoverished in other
countries grew.
